The tech put drop cloths everywhere and showed me the video of our flue before and after. Not a speck of soot on the carpet, and the fireplace draws so much better now.

Another company told us we needed a new liner. These guys sent us the camera footage. The liner was fine, it just needed a good sweep. Honest people.

Had birds nesting in the chimney. They cleared it out and put a cap on. Arrival was a bit late in the day but they texted ahead.

Smoke kept rolling into the living room. They found a stuck damper and a lot of buildup, fixed both, and didn't try to sell us anything else.

Did the chimney and the dryer vent in one visit. On time, tidy, and the photos made it easy to see why the dryer was taking forever.

Frequently Asked Chimney Questions:

How much does chimney cleaning cost?

A standard single-flue chimney cleaning starts from $189, including the camera check. Your price is confirmed on the phone before booking; heavy buildup or extra flues are quoted before work starts, never after.

Is the chimney inspection really free?

Yes. The camera inspection costs nothing and there is no obligation. You get photos of your flue and an honest recommendation. If it needs cleaning or repair, you get a written price first and decide in your own time.

What happens during the free inspection?

The technician checks the firebox, damper, smoke chamber and flue, runs a camera up the chimney and shows you the footage. You get a plain answer: clean now, fine for this season, or a repair worth fixing, with a price before any work.

Why should I have my chimney cleaned?

Creosote builds up every time you burn. Cleaning lowers the risk of a chimney fire and carbon monoxide backing up, restores the draft so smoke goes up rather than into the room, gets rid of musty odors, and lets the technician spot damage early, before it becomes a costly repair.

How often should my chimney be cleaned?

The NFPA and CSIA recommend an inspection at least once a year, with cleaning when buildup is found. If you burn wood as a main heat source, you may need it twice a season.

Is it messy?

It should not be. The technician lays drop cloths, seals the fireplace opening and uses a HEPA vacuum, and shows you the finished job before leaving.

How long does it take?

Usually 60 to 90 minutes for one fireplace, including the camera check and photo report.

Will you try to sell me repairs?

We clean what you booked. If the camera shows a real problem, you get photos and a written quote, with no pressure and no same-day push, and you're welcome to get a second opinion.

Do I need an inspection when buying or selling a home?

Standard home inspections often skip the chimney. A Level 2 inspection (with video of the flue) is recommended when a home changes hands, and the report is useful for your insurer too.

What are inspection Levels 1, 2 and 3?

Level 1: yearly visual check of accessible parts. Level 2: adds video of the flue plus attic/crawlspace, for sales, appliance changes or after damage. Level 3: opening concealed areas, only when Level 1 or 2 points to a hidden problem.

There's smoke coming into my room or a bad smell. What's wrong?

Usually creosote buildup, a blockage, a damper issue or poor draft. Our free draft & smoke check on any cleaning visit finds the cause.

I hear animals in my chimney. What should I do?

Don't light a fire. Call us. We remove birds, squirrels and nests humanely and can install a cap so they can't come back.

Do gas fireplaces need cleaning?

Gas doesn't make creosote, but vents, logs and flues still need a yearly check for blockages and safe venting.

Do you service my area?

We work with independent local technicians across New Jersey. Call or send your zip and we will confirm coverage for your address before anything is booked.

Why it matters

A clean chimney
is a safer,
warmer home.

Airflow Express connects you with local chimney technicians who show you what they found on camera, explain it in plain words and only quote repairs you ask for.

  • A safer home: Less creosote means a lower risk of chimney fires and carbon monoxide.
  • Better draft: Smoke goes up the flue instead of backing up into the room.
  • Fresher air: No musty or campfire odors from a dirty or damp chimney.
  • More efficient fires: A clear flue burns hotter and cleaner, with less fuel.
  • Catch damage early: Cracks, leaks and loose caps found before they become costly repairs.
  • Peace of mind: A photo report for your records, your insurer or a home sale.
